Pelvic Floor Work

What makes Empower the best place for me to come with pelvic floor concerns?

We are a small clinic that does not employ extenders or over-schedule patients, which means we are often able to devote 45 minutes to an hour of one-on-one patient-focused care. Both Jen Lausten, PT, DPT and Amy Voorhis, LPTA, ATC have done continuing education coursework for years centered around pelvic floor concerns and pre- and post-partum and menopause.

How can I benefit from working with Empower if you don’t perform any internal pelvic floor work?

The pelvic floor is a dynamic part of our trunk and therefore can be affected by anything that affects this region! This could also be a good approach for anyone feeling apprehensive about an internal exam and not trying PT due to fear avoidance.

Some examples of things we include as part of our treatment approach that directly affect our pelvic floor:

·       Pelvic floor recruitment

·       Posture/alignment

·       Body mechanics and movement patterns

·       Breathing mechanics

·       Pressure management

·       Muscle imbalances through the trunk and/or upper and lower extremities

Are there other conditions a person may be struggling with that would make them a good candidate for PT that addresses pelvic floor concerns?

Yes! A lot of common issues can be improved by changing breath patterns, movement patterns, or day to day habits and we can coach you through these things. Here are some examples:

·       Constipation

·       Anxiety

·       Difficulty or pain with a particular activity such as a sport/hobby or caring for child

·       Jaw clenching, pain, or other TMJ concerns

·       Difficulty with stress management

·       Anyone new to movement or exercise who may need supervision to start safely
